Our Classrooms

"Education is the most powerful weapon which   you can use to change the world". Nelson Mandela

Phillipsburg Child Care Center strives to offer a program that enhances the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth to the early learners of our community through developmentally appropriate curriculum. Our program is supported by caregiver-assisted purposeful play, which amplifies creativity, curiosity and socialization by taking into account children’s abilities and interests.

All PCCC classrooms are equipped with their own exterior exits in case of emergency, restrooms, labeled cots or cribs for napping and personal belonging cubbies for each child to keep their things in. All children, excluding infants, are served family style meals. This is a great way to practice responsive feeding. Children who participate in family-style dining are more attuned to their natural hunger cues, are more likely to try new foods, and are more likely to make healthier choices when seeing these choices modeled for them.

Infant Unit

Our infant unit is equipped for up to 9 infants and includes a diapering area, a meal prep area, and a large L-shaped transparent barrier that separates the napping area from the play area. The see through barrier panels allow caregivers visibility to supervise sleeping infants from anywhere in the room. This unit includes a toddler sized restroom for earlier potty trainers. Our infant schedule is flexible to best tailor to the infants' daily needs. Infants engage in different activities throughout the day that support their physical and intellectual development. Infants can graduate to a toddler unit once they are 12 months of age and primarily walking.

Mixed Age Unit 1

Our first mixed age unit is licensed for up to 10 children. This unit is equipped with toddler sized tables and chairs, a diaper changing station, a toddler sized restroom, and room for an infant sleep area if needed. Our toddler schedule includes a busy morning of learning through play.  Toddlers engage in a large group activity that includes music and movement after breakfast. Following their morning meeting, they break into smaller groups to engage in activities that will strengthen their mathematics, literacy, creative arts, social-emotional, and fine motor skills through play.  Toddlers get to strengthen gross motor skills through outdoor play twice a day, weather permitting. Our afternoon nap time provides kids with a perfect chance to recharge before they complete their days. A snack is served after nap time and we finish our day playing outdoors or engaging in an indoor free play time.

Mixed Age Unit 2

Our second mixed age unit is very similar to mixed age unit 1. This unit is also equipped with toddler sized tables and chairs, a diaper changing station, a toddler sized restroom, and room for an infant sleep area if needed. Our second mixed age unit will likely serve as a transition room to toddlers. We believe it's best for children to be surrounded by peers that are experiencing similar life changes, such as potty training and preparing for preschool. Children can practice using the restroom with little to no help from caregivers and prepare to transition to preschool while benefiting from the same routine schedule that they are used to. Toddlers can graduate to our preschool unit when they are 2.5 years old and completely potty trained.

Preschool Unit

Our preschool room is a spacious room fully equipped for up to 12 preschoolers. This room includes tables and chairs, various play centers, a reading area, and (2) toddler sized restrooms. Our preschool schedule includes a busy morning of purposeful play. Preschoolers engage in a large group activity that includes music and movement. During this meeting children will develop a sense of community. By participating in a large group setting, children become more aware of how to greet and be aware of their peers which strengthens social skills. Children learn that each child is valued as a member of the group. Following their morning meeting, preschoolers break into smaller centers to engage in activities that will strengthen their mathematics, literacy, creative arts, social-emotional, and fine motor skills.  Preschoolers get to strengthen gross motor skills through outdoor play three times a day, weather permitting. Our afternoon nap time provides kids a with perfect chance to recharge before they complete their days. A snack is served after nap time and we finish our day playing outdoors or engaging in an indoor free play time.

School Age Unit

Our school age unit provides children with the perfect place to stay after school or on school breaks! This is another spacious unit that includes an ADA compliant restroom, school age sized tables and chairs, and various play centers. Caregivers are happy to help children with homework or school projects upon parent request.
